Ok - I'll get the ball rolling...

And, I know I highly biased, but this is a true story nonetheless....since starting a regular practice of Sports Yoga, I have noticed a an incredible improvement in my running and cycling. I suspect it's for a couple of major reasons: all that core strength and keeping my major muscles and attachments open. I used to suffer from chronic low back pain when I would train heavily on the bike or run long. Not so much anymore and I'm no spring chicken. Not that this matters much, but Sports Yoga has changed my body composition - I look very different now since I stopped traditional weight training. My muscles are leaner and longer. Nice bonus.

    What's your story?

After moving to Fort Collins in August of 2009 I became very down and disoriented and began eating for comfort and skipping the workouts I had once enjoyed. My husband and I went looking for a club that I would feel comfortable at and one that would inspire me to resume my workouts and shed the 20 pounds that I had gained in 5 months of over indulging. I tried a few but found them to be overcrowded and impersonal and I had no desire to recommit myself until my daughter encouraged me to try a free week at become fit. She assured me that become fit was awesome and different and boy was she right! After the first spin class I felt comfortable and inspired and not just a number! I was called by my name from the very 1st time I walked in and I felt that like Kim,Leah and the girls there really were behind me and wanted me to succeed. They are always so positive that I found myself including become fit classes, both spin and yoga, into my daily schedule and loving it! I have dropped 12 pounds since joining in October and feel confident that I will continue to drop the last 5 pounds and be down to my "fighting weight" as well as becoming toned! Become Fit has helped me to "become fit" again as well as become happy again and I really appreciate everyone there and the excellent classes and expertise that they provide. There is really no other place like it!

When I let life get in the way of my good routine at Becomefit ... the "i" changed to an "a" ... and I realized that I would soon "Becomefat" if I didn't re-prioritize my life! Excellent instruction, nutrition guidance through Healthy Eaters, and friendly staff have got me feeling good again and I am determined to keep the "i".

I've also learned that changing one's body inside and out takes time ... and that is okay. The journey is like many of the "road rides" the gals talk about in spinning; it takes patience and persistence.

I've enjoyed my year at Becomefit and look forward to many more!

When I first discovered Become Fit, I had just thrown my back out and was at an all - time mind and body low. Luckily, I realized I needed to gain control of a healthy life again. I needed motivation to get back "in shape" and strengthen my back. I felt welcome at Become Fit the moment I walked through the door. Not only have I enjoyed a rapid recovery; I have also experienced individual attention, fun workouts and great music. Now I feel more comfortable, more confident and my body feels amazing. Not to mention that I quit smoking! Become Fit provides the best workout environment of any gym. They offer classes for all levels from getting started to keeping you going. If you are looking for something new, definitely check out this innovative gym.

I was growing VERY tired of the crowded spinning classes at Pulse, and decided to check out the Become Fit facility. The location adjacent to the Mason corridor intrigued me. When I entered the architecturally stunning spinning room for the first time, I was a convert. The inspiring view of the mountains continues to enhance my workouts 6 months later. Client empowerment with mind-body awareness separates this gifted team of trainers from those at "regular" fitness centers.
They make Becoming Fit a sure thing!

When Becomefit started in October a couple years ago, I went to there work shops on the spinning and yoga. I got hooked on spinning and really enjoyed going whenever it fit in my schedule. About 6 months ago Snake was diagnosed with a lot of food allergies. So started the journey of a major change in what we could and could not eat. Along with that came a commitment from myself to not only eat healthier and abide by the bounderies set by the allergist, but too also try and get my fitness level to the best I could. So began 2010 with a healthy outlook and unlimited visits to Becomefit. I took to spinning everyday and also joined the 5 week bootcamp in February. It was amazing to me to meet those challenges of training along with how many new aches and pains came along with no added cost. Bootcamp was quite the challenge but I prevailed and then signed up for another 4 weeks. I thought I have to be crazy! But I have been very consistent with this training pursuit and it has felt amazing. I feel that I am getting fit and stronger on a daily basis. Thanks to all the amazing instructors for there help and support and to the all exhilarating rides they have taken me on. I am hoping to continue to get stronger as the days go on. I know once the weather breaks the class time will slow down but the commitment will last a lift time. Thank you to each and one of you Leah, Kim, Jessi, Callie and Paige for helping me on this fitness journey. Also to Snake who has been my real cheerleader and encouraging me to go to class everyday and putting up with all the late dinners.

Just had to update, yesterday after spin I went on a 25 mile ride, first ride outside this year and road as if I had no chain. Just felt strong and powerful. Took the climbs by storm. Since we cannot coast in class I never dropped my cadence.
Thanks Becomefit all the hard work is paying off....YES!!

I have never thought of myself as someone who would write a testimonial about my experience at a gym. Then again, I never thought of myself as someone who could do a spin class or who would show up at a gym at 6:30 AM, and I do both of those regularly now. I believe the reason I can do some things now I never thought I would is because of this truth I have learned during the past year working out at
Become Fit: my body can go so much farther if I bring my mind along. Most of my experience in gyms (and in weight loss efforts) involves putting the mind off to the side. I have spent hours on elliptical trainers and treadmills, my body moving while my brain was involved in reading a People magazine or watching a rerun of The Munsters (yes, really). I have also worked in dancy aerobics classes (focus on the fun and ignore how hard you're working) and "ignore the pain"-type classes ("Knee hurts? work harder and the pain in your chest will make you forget about that knee") The weakness of all these approaches was an effort to distract the mind from the pain of exercising, to detach the mind from the body. And of course, I have lots of experience with dieting, which is pretty much based on ignoring body cues like hunger. At Become Fit I am learning the beauty of focusing on how my body feels when it's working. I have learned that when my legs hurt or my breath is coming short and hard, I can make it easier (or at least bearable) by focusing on my breathing or on that pain, visualizing breathing slower and pushing on just a little more, a little more. I have also learned that time on that spin bike passes much more quickly when I am focusing on one leg, then the other leg, then my shoulders, and so on, than it ever could when I was reading gossip magazines. I love how all of you instructors even use mindful language to encourage us to give just that little bit more - my favorite is "this is what your body is meant to do". Every single class the instructor encourages us to find a focus or goal for the class, and I am amazed at how often I can meet my goal. Although the yoga classes, are a lesson in mindfulness on a more intense scale, I feel I have improved my strength to an astonishing (for me) degree, mostly by focusing on small goals (sinking a little deeper in warrior, or holding a little longer in the hover) and again, focusing on how all that feels to my body. In the food and eating arena, the healthy eating group has helped me to hold onto the belief that one can eat much more healthfully by paying attention and eating mindfully and actually enjoying food than by ignoring body sensations like hunger or taste. In short, with the help of all of you instructors, I am overcoming a lifetime of bad habits and personal obstacles to create a mind-body connection of my own. Thanks for what you do!

    The Good Stuff:
From the moment I walked into BecomeFit I felt at home. The staff is among the friendliest and most approachable people I know. They are extremely knowledgeable and know what it takes to achieve the level of fitness we all aspire to. One look at them and you know that they walk the walk but most importantly they know the process and science behind this and have a way of conveying it to people of all levels. Their kind and genuinely caring nature makes you want to keep coming back because you feel like they care and they take the time to know your needs and personal goals. The trainers get so fired up to see people working hard and take the time to help those that struggle with the concepts and yoga poses that it inspires you to give it your best effort. They promote heart rate training, which is something I have never done before. I have followed their advice every step of the way and I've seen amazing results in my fitness (recovery rate, strength, endurance) and weight.

    The Great Stuff:
After 5 months of working out regularly at Become Fit (at least 5 times per week) I have been able to significantly raise my level of fitness. I have been keeping statistics from my heart rate monitor since the first visit. Here are some results:

Recovery – Interval spinning has dramatically improved my recovery rate. In one of my first interval classes (10/19/2009) I could on ly manage an Average Heartrate of 161 BPM and a Max Heart Rate of 183 BPM. After 5 months at become fit I now manage an average Heart Rate of 149 BPM with a max of 180 BPM; effectively reducing my heart rate from 180 down to under 135 BPM within a 90 – 120 second time frame between intervals.

Endurance – Strength and endurance spinning has paid me dividends as well. At the start of my Become Fit membership I started running a 4 mile loop on a weekly basis and managed an average 14:40 per mile pace with and average speed of 4.1 MPH. After 5 months at become fit I now manage, on the same loop, an average pace of 8:46 per mile and 6.8 MPH average speed.

I am in the best physical shape that I have been in the past 15 years and I may actually see my high school weight again. I feel great and all my friends comment on how I've changed. So I guess, Leah, I now “see the value” in it (I am recalling my ignorant comment in our first meeting?). Thanks for creating an awesome environment to get serious about fitness.

On July 17th, I knew it all. I was “fit” and darn it, I was on the ball when it came to my health.

On July 18th, while running the course the day before the Urban Assault, I hit the railroad tracks at Ranchway Feed and took a nasty fall. Banged up and bruised from head to toe on my left side, we jumped out of bed on July 19th and participated in the Urban Assault. Our time STUNK. It was another miserable ride where we made excuses for ourselves (broken chain, stuck at traffic lights, you name it), but when I saw the gals from becomefit take home the prize, I said to Dan, “I’m working out wherever those gals are.”

Five years of traveling coast-to-coast and eating whatever was handy had caught up with me and I didn’t even know it. My cardiovascular health was substandard and I was out of shape. Period. The week of July 19th, I stepped into becomefit to try out the free week and hopefully break up the nasty bruises I had on my left hip and thigh. Kim set me up on my bike and there was no looking back. Shortly thereafter I sweet-talked Dan into joining; the rest is history.

While I am not where I want to be, I am in a good place. The 75-minute Saturday spin is like a skip around the block and while running club started out as my Megatron, it’s now a mental break and one of the things I’m most proud of. After five years of denial, I am in good shape. I am a runner again.

Leah, Kim and the entire crew are some of the most kind, yet motivating and caring individuals I’ve ever met. I’ve learned life skills for the road (7.5 mile run in San Diego on Wednesday and self guided yoga tonight) and know that I can go to the crew with any concerns I have and will receive educated advice that I can trust.

There isn’t a club in FC that I haven’t belonged to; however this is my last one.
